Early days with the Norwich Rock and Fell Club.

Created by Michael 4 years ago

I first met David and Margaret when the Rock and Fell was formed. David was always entertaining and liked to ignore the advised walking routes.

A couple funny memories and one serious.

His exploding haggis on the ceiling in Pitlockery.

Losing the tent poles from his rucksack whilst backpacking in the Lakes. Luckily we found them eventually.                                                                                            David explaining the rocks of Torridon to a professional geologist.                               Eaten all his food (and Margaret,s) finding a mouldy fig in his rucksack, eating it with the comment. White mould is good.                                                                                                                                                                                                        Saving me from injury or worse on Skye.                                                                I was with David, Margaret, Jon and Fiona in Corrie Lagan. David had a wish to climb to the ridge and descend down the Great Stone Shoot, via passing by the Inaccessible Pinnacle. David Jon and I set off. On the ridge it was extremely misty. We found the Pinnacle but shortly after I lost my footing and slid of the ridge onto a steep mud and scree  slope. Sliding down some yards, stopping with one hand and one foot hold. Not able to move safely. Fortunately David came to the rescue down the slope with the balance and agility of a mountain goat. Found me some holds and all was well. We couldn't see where I would have fallen to and we didn't find the Stone Shoot either. I was very lucky to have David's assistance that day.     Mike Brown
